Types of Decorative Panels & Quality Identification (Super Practical Version)
I have prepared a version for you that is easy to understand and can be used directly on the spot. I won't beat around the bush.
1. Common types of decorative panels
Solid wood decorative panels
Made from natural wood through planing, with natural textures and high quality feel. However, the price is relatively high.
Common types: Oak, Walnut, Cherry, Ebony, Teak, etc.
Technology wood decorative panels (artificial wood veneer)
Replicating wood textures artificially, with uniform textures, small color differences, and high cost-effectiveness. It has better stability than solid wood.
Polyurethane decorative panels (non-vinyl panels / eco panels)
Resistant to wear and tear, scratch-resistant, moisture-proof. Mostly used for cabinet bodies and cabinet doors. There are numerous color options.
PET decorative panels
The surface is as shiny as a mirror, easy to maintain, and moisture-proof. It is commonly used in modern and luxurious styles.
Quartz panels / Ceramic decorative panels
High hardness, fire-resistant, and resistant to stains. Suitable for walls and background walls.
Carpenter bamboo / Wood decorative panels (integrated wall panels)
Quick installation, moisture-proof, soundproof. Used in commercial and renovation projects of old houses.
Acrylic decorative panels
Bright colors, high gloss. Mostly used for modern and minimalist cabinet doors.
Metal decorative panels
Stainless steel, copper color, brushed texture. Suitable for light luxury and industrial styles.
2. How to quickly distinguish between high-quality and low-quality
1. Look at the surface
High-quality: Clear textures, uniform color, no black spots, no bulges, no scratches.
Low-quality: Foggy, dim, with impurities, blurry textures, large color differences.
2. Feel the texture
High-quality: Smooth and flat, no particles, no bumps.
Low-quality: Rough, prickly to the touch, uneven locally.
3. Smell the odor
High-quality: Light or no odor, meeting environmental protection standards.
Low-quality: Irritating, choking, heavy formaldehyde smell.
4. Check the edge sealing / base material (very crucial)
High-quality: Sealing is tight, not peeling, not de-laminating, the base material is firm and has high density.
Low-quality: Sealing is loose, prone to falling off, the base material is loose, and it becomes soft when pressed.
5. Abrasion and scratch test (a simple on-site trick)
Use a key to lightly scratch:
High-quality: No marks left.
Low-quality: Clear scratches, peeling, exposed base material.
6. Check the moisture resistance
Drop a little water:
High-quality: No penetration, no expansion, no deformation.
Low-quality: Quickly absorbs water, bulges.
7. Check the brand and environmental protection level
Priority selection:
E0 level / ENF level (the highest environmental protection standard in China)
3. Simple summary (easy to remember)
To achieve high quality and natural look → Solid wood / Technology wood decorative panels
For durability and easy maintenance → PET, polyurethane, quartz panels
For low cost and quick installation → Integrated wall panels
To distinguish quality: Check the texture, feel the texture, smell the odor, check the edge sealing, do the scratch test, check the environmental protection level
